Humidity systems

A humidity system extends the life of your quality piano or grand piano. Most manufacturers recommend the Piano Life Saver system and even include in their warranty terms for new instruments that humidity levels must be maintained between 35–50% for the warranty to remain valid. Piano tuning stability is also positively affected. The risk of cracks in the soundboard during dry winter weather is reduced, and the system also prevents swelling from summer humidity. The result is a more stable tuning over time and, most importantly—greater playing pleasure and a longer shelf life for your instrument. Every half hour, the "Humidistat" detects whether to add or reduce humidity. It is factory-set to maintain approximately 42% and regulates humidity inside the instrument silently. The original Dampp-Chaser climate control system comes with a 5-year warranty.

If you’ve invested in a quality piano or grand piano, you likely know it requires regular maintenance to keep it in top condition. An important part of this maintenance is controlling the humidity around your instrument. A humidity system can be a great help in doing so. Many piano and grand piano manufacturers recommend using one to extend the instrument’s lifespan and to keep the warranty valid. A system like this helps maintain stable humidity between 35–50%, which reduces the risk of cracks in the soundboard or swelling caused by low humidity levels.

A popular climate control system is the Piano Life Saver, known by its original name Dampp-Chaser, which works by regulating the humidity inside the instrument using a Humidistat. This technology is preset to about 42% and operates quietly and efficiently to maintain a stable moisture level. In addition, the Piano Life Saver comes with a 5-year warranty—providing extra peace of mind for your investment.

As a highly experienced technician in installing the Piano Life Saver system, I can strongly recommend it for anyone who wants to extend the life of their piano or grand piano. Note that different systems are used for upright pianos and grand pianos, and for grands, the system used depends on the length of the instrument.

Algae inhibitor and filters

The algae inhibitor used is Humidifier Treatment. Add one capful with each refill to maintain water quality and preserve the filter's performance. You can conveniently purchase these accessories in our webshop.

Filter replacement is recommended twice a year. The filter material absorbs water from the tank and evaporates it using heat from the heating element. As such, it’s crucial to use the proper type of filter. Replace regularly to ensure the humidity system functions optimally. One kit contains two filters. It’s a good idea to buy in advance so you're prepared when it’s time to change them.If I am the technician tuning your piano, I always bring filters with me and will replace them at no charge—you only pay for the materials.
